Last weekend I had the locks I’d be growing since before my wedding (how is that two years ago!) all chopped off. Or rather, I had the lovely team at Dickson Reid chop it all off. I returned to my platinum blonde roots (well, I feel like I’m a natural platinum blonde, even if my roots suggest otherwise) and I opted for a new, shorter style, just in time for summer.
I felt like I had shed my winter skin, and what followed was a few purchases, all of which I know will be permanent features in my summer wardrobe and cosmetics bag.
The Basic T-Shirt
You can never have enough good t-shirts. With jeans and a pair of wedges, a good tee works for all summer occasions. Usually a fan of the J Crew, tee I’m giving the ASOS forever t-shirt a go this month. So far, so good. Soft, neat on the shoulders, and nice and long, they look great tucked half in, half out. The white one is a little thin, needs to be worn with a plain beige bra, but nice and light for the summer months.
The Patterned Flat
These new flats are another successful ASOS buy. I have incredibly narrow feet so am always dubious about buying online, however these loafer pointed ballet shoes are perfect. They feel like they’ll take a couple of short outings to wear them in, and I’ve already put a set of party feet heel protectors on the back – I do this nearly all my shoes. I like that the print is different on each shoe, and one is a little more green on the front.
The Denim Dress
Whilst in Norway I discovered Days Like This, a gorgeous little clothes shop which was the perfect mash up of style from & Other Stories, wardrobe staples from Zara and prices to match my old time favourite, Mango. I also found my summer denim dress, an item I’ve been on the hunt for since last summer. The one I bought is not quite as pictured, slightly lighter, and a tad longer. It’s light, super soft and two side slits keep is from being too mumsy. It’ll look just as good with flats as it will be wedges and a leather jacket for a summer night out.
The Origins Haul
A couple of hours browsing duty free at Amsterdam Airport last month, and my skincare routine went from zero to hero. I’m now the proud owner of the Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask (face masks are not something I’ve ever really bothered with) which I’m hoping will clear my pores and leave my skin feeling fresher, whilst my morning routine requires an extra five minutes in front of the mirror thanks to this Ginzing Energy Boosting Moisturiser. Having never really invested in skincare before, I am hoping to see some good results over the summer months.
